Very good question.
1. The imagemagik module is used to generate sharp product images which are about the same size as images generated by native GD. The main purpose is generating sharp images, not about losing weight and fast loading speed. The module can also be used to lose weight by adjusting settings properly.
Imagemagik is also recommended by google page speed insights.
2. JPEG 2000, JPEG XR, and WebP are new image formats, since WebP is supported by most browsers, so I think it’s the best one.
Webp is all about fast loading speed and small size. I will do more studies about webp to see if it’s necessary to support webp. To make change most product images support webp is not that difficult in Panda v2.
